All adopted dogs, like this Frenchie, are welcome at the National Adoption Reunion Celebration in Central Park on October 4

On October 4, thousands of adopted pets and their owners will descend on Central Park with one thing in mind: Set a Guinness World Record. It's just one of many fun events planned for Petco's inaugural National Adoption Reunion Celebration in New York City, an event designed to spotlight the importance of adopting pound puppies and shelter cats.

In an attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for Largest Gathering of Adopted Shelter Animals, pets and their owners will meet at the park's Naumburg Bandstand starting at 4 p.m., when Gavin DeGraw will play a free concert. Aside from rocking out, attendees will also have access to a Sony Photo Experience area, where they can line up for photo ops and pick up tips on how to take perfect pet photos.

Petco's National Adoption Reunion Celebration will also benefit the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals, which will receive a mobile adoption van — valued at $128,000 — at the festivities to help the organization with its roving pet adoption efforts throughout the city.
