We've long known that Pauley Perrette, who plays Abby Sciuto on NCIS, is a huge animal lover and major supporter of numerous animal-related causes — she even presented at the recent American Humane Associate Hero Dog Award Show. So when the latest episode of NCIS featured Abby snuggling a puppy at a pet rescue, we were thrilled but assumed that it was just due to Perrette's influence. After all, she was recently named the most popular character on prime-time television — so she probably has a little pull. However, the rescue pet spotlight didn't end there. A scruffy pup took a starring role in the series' sister show, NCIS: Los Angeles. Monty the rescue dog is actually a returning character, but when Deeks, the character who plays his owner, began talking about how all the hip young L.A. couples have rescue dogs, we knew it was no coincidence. That hunch was solidified when we caught up on our favorite guilty-pleasure show, Gossip Girl, and the incorrigible Chuck Bass not only takes in a pound puppy but actually takes him to get neutered. And, well, that's just not the sort of thing we expect from Chuck, in many ways.

Clearly, prime-time TV is helping spread the word about animal rescue during Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog Month. But between writing about animals here and snuggling with our own pets, we don't have time to watch all the hit shows, so we're turning to you. Which of your favorite shows have featured shelter dogs this month? Do you think this is an effective way to get people to consider rescuing a pet?
