Meet the Breeds Is This Weekend in NYC

New York City is going to the dogs! And cats, if we're being technical. Why? This Saturday and Sunday the city hosts the third annual AKC Meet the Breeds, an event featuring 160 dog breeds and 50 breeds of cats, at the Javits Center. The American Kennel Club and The International Cat Association put on AKC Meet the Breeds, which is sponsored by PetPartners, and it's certain to be a fun event for your whole pet-loving family, with some of the world's rarest (as well as largest, smallest, furriest, fastest, etc.) dog and cat breeds on display. A feline fashion show features kitties in couture on the catwalk, while superstar Shetland Sheepdogs perform tricks and local canine heroes meet and greet fans and admirers.

And, all the while, animal lovers will have the opportunity to interact with and learn about all kinds of breeds. Whether you're looking for a quick cuddle from a Komondor, wondering how high a Bengal can jump, or trying to figure out the best breed for your family, AKC Meet the Breeds it definitely the place to be.

Many booths are elaborately designed to play up their breed's reputation, like the Corgi, seen here.

The event takes place Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are available online for $12 (adults) and $8 (children) until November 18; after that, tickets will be $15 online and at the door for adults, $10 online and at the door for children. Get more information on tickets, location and more at the AKC Meet the Breeds website.
