Animal-Themed Cocktails

At the end of a long day, there's little we like better than sitting on the back porch, dog at our feet, cat in our lap, and tasty adult beverage in hand. In the pursuit of pure joy, however, we found a way to make this scenario even better: by drinking cocktails with fun animal names! I mean, sure, you could just have a margarita or a glass of wine, but wouldn't you rather give a toast with, say, a Salty Dog? Or a Flaming Giraffe? Yep, we thought so.

This classic cocktail is on par with the Screwdriver; it's a simple, refreshing vodka and grapefruit juice (fresh, please, not canned) drink that's a piece of cake to make and even easier to sip. The cocktail's namesake is known as the 45 mph couch potato, and we can't think of a better accoutrement to this drink than a sleeping pup cuddled up beside you. Find the recipe here.

Funky Monkey

Maybe a cold beverage isn't enough; perhaps you're in need of a blended, frozen drink, and if so, let us introduce you to the Funky Monkey. Between the rum and the banana and coconut flavors, it's a taste of tropical paradise in your own home. Find the recipe here.

Flaming Giraffe

No giraffes are harmed in the making of this cocktail! Served in a double shot glass and set on fire, this is more of a party drink than a "sit and chat with your neighbor" beverage, but if you like coffee and butterscotch flavors, it's definitely one to check out. Find the recipe here.

Zebra Fizz

Want the exotic animal name without the fire hazard? The Zebra Fizz is another simple vodka drink, this time, featuring one of summer's favorite mixers, lemonade, with a little Sprite to get the fizz going. We can see ourselves enjoying a lot of these this summer. Or, rather, enjoying them a lot. Possibly both. Find the recipe here.

Salty Dog/Salty Chihuahua

Enjoy your refreshments with a side of salt? There's a cocktail for that! The Salty Dog features gin and grapefruit juice with a salted rim, while its cousin, the Salty Chihuahua, fills a salt-rimmed glass with tequila and lemonade. Find the Salty Dog recipe here and the Salty Chihuahua recipe here.

We know we didn't cover all the great cocktails with animal names here, but if we missed your favorite, be sure to name it in the comments!
