The owners of a French Bulldog were overcome with emotion Saturday as firefighters reunited them with their dog outside their burning apartment building in Hackensack, New Jersey.

Melvin Rodriguez had been watching firefighters and praying that they’d find the little black dog. He and his 14-year-old son, Damon, cried with joy as a firefighter carried little Sebastian safely from the building,  Yahoo News reports. The owners sank to the sidewalk clutching the pooch. Sebastian licked his owners as women at a nearby hair salon broke into applause, according to the report.

Regional Fire Photos was on the scene and snapped the picture above, as well as several other dramatic moments you can see on its Facebook page.

The fire is believed to have started in a first-floor restaurant and spread to the apartments above. The building will now need to be torn down, so the Red Cross is helping the 12 displaced families who lived there find shelter, NJ.com reports.
