Dubai Hosts Its Great Hawksbill Sea Turtle Release Today

When you think of Dubai, you probably picture billionaire American financiers vacationing in gold palaces and luxuriating on powder white beaches.

Today, however, Dubai will show a softer side as local children help to release more than 100 hawksbill sea turtles back into their natural habitat.

The annual summer turtle release is part of the Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Project (DTRP), a collaboration between The Wildlife Protection Office and the Jumeirah Group, a Dubai-based hotel and hospitality company.

The event, which is open to the public for the first time this year, will also feature The Big Jumeirah Sea Turtle Race — six rehabilitated and tagged sea turtles will be released, and then tracked via satellite to see how far they travel by October.
