Feline Mayor Draws Tourists to Alaska Town
He’s not always open to questions, and he’s often caught sleeping on the job — but the residents of Talkeetna, a small Alaska town located at the base of Mount McKinley, are still pleased with Mayor Stubbs. He was first elected 15 years ago as a write-in because voters were unhappy with the candidates on the ballot. Today, the honorary feline mayor continues to attract hundreds of tourists a week to the local general store. “He’s probably the best [mayor] we’ve had,” says a resident. — Watch it at WPIX, and read it from UPI
He was known around town as “Glen Bearian,” and made headlines by raiding trashcans in the Los Angeles suburb of Glendale. The beloved black bear even has a Twitter handle, which he uses to send virtual bear hugs. A new study finds that Bisphenol A, or BPA, a chemical used in the manufacturing of some plastics, can change the appearance and behavior of river fish enough to lead to interspecies breeding. The chemical has been banned from use in baby bottles and cups in several states because of the danger it poses. — Read it at Medical News Today
Cesar Millan, host of the Dog Whisperer, may have gone to Kelsey Grammer’s home to advise the actor on his problem pups — but he got a little advice of his own while taping the episode, which is part of the final season of the controversial series. "We both were going through our divorce; it really turned into almost like therapy for me," says Millan. “Obviously, I helped him with his dogs . . . But I got to be with the human side of him. I think that show was more for me than anyone else." — Read it at People Pets
