You’ve heard of a nail file in a cake, but a cat with a drill? That’s what prison guards in Brazil's northeast Alagoas state say they found when they spotted the black and white feline trying to enter the jail. Also taped to the cat were two saws, assorted batteries and a cell phone. Officials believe the items were to be used for a prison break, but they have not yet discovered which of the 250 inmates the cat was supposed to be aiding. The investigation is ongoing and the cat is in the possession of animal control. — Read it at CNN
The long-beaked echidna, thought to be extinct in Australia since the last Ice Age, may still exist there, according to experts. Scientists at the Natural History Museum discovered a specimen of the egg-laying mammal shot and stuffed and lying in a drawer, neatly tagged with the year it had been found, 1901, and the location, Australia. Until this “re-discovery,” the 20-pound critically endangered creature was thought to only exist in the rain forests of New Guinea, but experts say this finding raises the possibility that it still lives in Australia as well. — Read it at Live Science
The baby aardvark born October 8 at Omaha, Nebraska’s Henry Doorly Zoo has made its first public appearance, making it one of only 30 aardvarks that currently live in North American zoos – but it doesn’t yet have a name! The pop star, who lost her beloved Yorkie Lila just weeks ago, has welcomed a new pup into her life: a Chihuahua mix named Bean. That makes a total of five four-footed friends for Cyrus, who also has a Rottweiler-Beagle mix, a German Shepherd, an Alaskan Klee Kai and a rescue mutt.
