Three-year-old Nate, a Terrier, was rescued from a hoarding situation and was then passed over for adoption several times because of a problem with one of his legs, said the Ohio-based LuvFurMutts rescue. But, on the other side of the country, a star was quietly watching Nate’s YouTube videos and making plans. George and Amal Clooney, who adopted a shelter dog last year, heard about Nate and thought he would be perfect for George’s parents, Nick and Nina Clooney. The couple had recently lost their Terrier of 10 years. Clooney shared the videos with his parents, who fell in love with the pup and didn’t mind his injury. “It sounds like he gets around just as good as we do anymore,” Nick Clooney reportedly told George. So, the actor arranged to have Nate delivered to his parents, who live in Ohio, as a gift on Christmas Eve. “They could have any dog in the world but they chose to adopt a dog who was crippled and could have been with LuvFurMutts for life,” the rescue said. George and Amal paid for the adoption and made a donation that covered the costs of his surgery expenses and more. LuvFurMutts recently revealed the story of Nate’s adoption on Facebook. — Read it at People Pets
Buck Clarke, 56, was taking his sister’s dog for a walk in New Jersey Friday when the dog spotted a flock of geese on a frozen canal and broke free from Clarke. Then, Schwarz fell through the ice. "He turns around and goes to push off with his hind legs," Clarke said. "His rear end goes in." Clarke slowly and carefully tried to make his way out to get Schwarz. He pushed the dog back onto the ice, but fell in himself. Luckily, "Schwarz likes to bark, and he was doing a lot of barking," Clarke said. That barking alerted a neighbor that something was wrong, and the neighbor contacted Bound Brook police. Officer Jason Gianotto quickly arrived on the scene and pulled Clarke to safety, then got him medical attention. Clarke says Schwarz’s barking won’t bother him any more. — Watch it at ABC7 New York
A woman in Connecticut came to the rescue of a kitten who was being pushed into a snow bank by a plow. “This young woman … raced into the oncoming plow and saved this kitten from what most likely would have been the end of her life," the Meriden Humane Society posted on Facebook. The group is calling the cat Adalena, and is now trying to find her owner — but they said it’s possible she was a feral cat who’d been spayed and released. "She is eating, has been seen by our vet, has a upper respiratory infection from the cold she endured, but all in all she seems well. It will take her some time to get herself together, but is on the mend!" the humane society said. — Read it at NBC Connecticut
