Researchers have found that there are twice as many emperor penguins in Antarctica as was previously believed. They counted 595,000 of the tuxedoed birds in 44 colonies — 7 of which they didn't even know existed. The penguins were good candidates for the project because they’re large, have dark plumage and live in an area with no trees to obstruct a satellite's view. — Read it at the LA Times
A driver in Los Angeles put out traffic cones when he realized that a black Labrador Retriever wasn’t going to abandon another dog who’d been fatally struck by a car. The 2-year-old dog, who’s been named Grace, is now up for adoption. — See it at ABC 7

Labrador and Piglet Become BFFs
A Kansas couple who run a veterinary hospital took in a piglet who tumbled out of the livestock truck onto the road in front of them. Although the first 48 hours were touch and go, the piglet, named Mu Shu, has a new best friend: their dog.
