Emotional K9 Pic Stirs Support

A heartwarming photo of police officers in Plymouth, Mass., saluting Kaiser, a police dog, in his final moments last week was posted on Reddit and shared widely on the Internet this weekend. Sadly, the 2-year-old German Shepherd, who was donated to the police by a local family in 2011, was recently diagnosed with severe kidney disease. The bittersweet photo was taken when the officers gathered in support as Kaiser’s handler, Officer James Lebretton, brought him to be put down on Friday. The viral photo drew condolences from all over the world. “The compassion was overwhelming and I am humbled at the support from perfect strangers,” Lebretton wrote in a post on the Plymouth Police Working Dog Foundation’s Facebook page. Boy Scout Helps Rescue Cat From Rubble

Justin Hulme Rangel, 13, was in Moore, Okla., with his Boy Scout troop to help local residents days after a tornado flattened the town on May 20. Rangel was searching through the rubble of Geoff and Jo Humann's home on May 26 when he found a litter box, and guessed that the couple’s missing cat might have hidden inside it. The 13-year-old cat was indeed alive inside, and was taken to the Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Health Sciences Teaching Hospital for treatment. Less than a week later, Egor the cat was happily set to go home with his family. — Read it at People Pets

Sheep Help Save Dog

While Holly Chugg Jones and Julian Light were visiting West Bay in Dorset, England, their beloved dog, Dobby, fell off a 500-foot cliff. Her distraught owners immediately called the coast guard, but there was no sign of Dobby anywhere, and the couple eventually headed home. Two days later, a lifeboat crew responded to reports of a woman screaming at the bottom of the cliff, but the noise turned out to be the bleating of a herd of sheep who’d found the Labrador mix. Seal Pup Gets 24/7 Care

A 3-day-old harbor seal pup was found struggling against the surf at a waterfront banquet facility on Long Island, N.Y., on Saturday morning. The 25-pound pup, who still had her umbilical cord attached, was rescued by the Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation, reported the AP. Staff at the facility have named her Penny, and kiddingly say that she’s “quite high maintenance.” In a Facebook update, the group says, “She is currently being tub-fed a special milk replacement formula 5 times per day, and our team has to keep her healing umbilical cord clean.” She remains in guarded condition. — Follow her progress on Facebook

A 75-year-old woman in Offenburg, Germany, called the police when pranksters continually rang her doorbell late at night. But when police arrived, they didn’t find the teenagers they thought they might.
