Dog Alerts Parents When Baby Stops Breathing
Last weekend, Duke jumped on his owners’ bed, and started to shake uncontrollably. His behavior was so unusual that Jenna Brousseau’s husband went to check on their 9-week-old baby, Harper — and found that she wasn’t breathing. “My husband called 911 and the ambulance came here and it was because of our Dukie dog, who alerted us,” Brousseau told ABC News. “If Duke hadn’t been so scared, we would have just gone to sleep . . . He’s the perfect dog, he was meant, meant to be ours, he was meant to be hers.” Duke, who the couple adopted 6 years ago, may have prevented a case of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Keith Campbell worked with a colleague to clone Dolly in Scotland in 1997. She was the first mammal to be cloned from adult material, and several other mammals have been cloned in the years since Dolly was born. She went on to give birth to six lambs — the natural way. A new report by the International Union for Conservation of Nature reveals over two dozen species of monkeys, langurs, lemurs and gorillas that researchers say are on the brink of extinction due to deforestation and illegal trafficking. Nature's Recipe Oven Baked Biscuits with Real Chicken, which were manufactured in Topeka, Kan., and distributed nationally, are being recalled because they may be contaminated with salmonella. The treats, which should be discarded, were primarily sold through pet specialty retailers. No pet or human illnesses have been reported so far, but Nature’s Recipe officials recommend that pet owners monitor themselves and their dogs for signs of illness. — Read it from the AP via the San Jose Mercury News
