He has impressive stamina in the water and can easily pull a struggling swimmer to shore, making Bruno the
Newfoundland a natural lifeguard. His owner, David Alvarez, a lifeguard himself, started bringing the pooch to work with him in the coastal town of San Pedro del Pinatar, Spain, so the
dog could go for a swim. But Bruno’s skills quickly earned him a full-time job. “If I rush out to rescue someone and there is a second person with them, then Bruno can carry one of them and pull them to shore,” says Alvarez. He says his employers have been so pleased with Bruno’s work that they’re considering adding more

All eight species of the scaly anteaters known as pangolins are now listed as critically endangered, endangered or vulnerable, according to the
International Union for Conservation of Nature. Pangolins are the only mammals in the world with true scales made of keratin. Native to Asia and Africa, Pangolins are illegally hunted and poached — and eaten. They’re considered a delicacy and their parts are used in medicine in China and Vietnam. "In the 21st century, we really should not be eating species to extinction — there is simply no excuse for allowing this illegal trade to continue," said Jonathan Baillie, co-chair of the pangolin specialist group for the IUCN's Species Survival Commission and

World Wildlife Fund says efforts to save tigers are being undermined by countries that are holding out on carrying out tiger population surveys. The
conservation group said India, Nepal and Russia completed their surveys and Bhutan, Bangladesh and China will soon release the results of theirs. But the populations in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam are unknown. The world tiger population is estimated to be as low as 3,200, but the WWF is trying to get a more accurate count in order to know if its efforts to save the animals are working. Tiger populations have been in decline because of trophy hunting, poaching and habitat loss. — Read it from

Xiao Liwu, a
San Diego Zoo panda who’s also known as Mr. Wu, celebrated his 2
nd birthday with a 100-pound ice cake. The creation took the zoo’s nutritional services team weeks to complete, but it didn’t take this 88-pound toddler nearly as long to eat it. He ate the fruit slices on top and later climbed on top of his treat to chew on the bamboo stalks. The cub’s keepers describe him as extremely smart and precocious. Mr. Wu lives at the
