A group of high school students from Colorado have become saviors for Flipper, a 9-month-old kitten born with a twisted spine that left him unable to stand up because he was partially paralyzed. After some initial prototypes failed, Team Blitz, a robotics club from Conifer High School, patched together a cart that their kitty client seems perfectly happy with — and Flipper was off and running. — Watch it at Today

Experts in China and at Michigan State University are working together to increase China’s populations of wild pandas, including reintroducing young pandas who are bred in captivity to their natural habitat at the protected Wolong Nature Reserve. At a retirement ceremony on Friday, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta mentioned President Harry Truman's famous quote: "If you want a friend in Washington, get a dog." Panetta, who’d also served as head of the CIA, said he followed that advice and got a Golden Retriever, Bravo, who sat in on many highly sensitive meetings, including some about the raid that killed Osama Bin Laden in 2011. "I want you to know that (Bravo) has never told a soul what he heard,” he said. “He is definitely not a leaker … At least according to that definition of the word," Panetta joked. — Read it at USA Today
Maybe he wanted to get in the game. As the National Anthem played at a Bakersfield Condors game on Saturday in California, the team’s mascot, an Andean Condor, decided to make a break for it. The massive bird evaded its handler as it attempted to walk across the ice, jumping onto the players’ bench — as the players quickly hopped off.
