Two fluffy white polar bear cubs were snuggled in their mama’s arms at the Hellabrunn Zoo in Germany when they peeked out at the world for the first time.

The twins were born to Giovanna on Dec. 9, and the sweet moment when they opened their eyes was caught on video at the Munich zoo earlier this year. Polar bears are blind at birth.

They got a gentle nuzzle from their mom, then went back to sleep.

“It really is a joy to be able to follow our polar bear twins’ development on video. Their mother, Giovanna, continues to behave in an exemplary fashion. Day by day the little ones are becoming more active, bigger and stronger, which is proof that everything is going to plan,” says Beatrix Köhler, curator and biologist.

The little ones will stay with Giovanna in their enclosure for now.
