Rare Pink Dolphin Spotted in Louisiana River

An albino bottlenose dolphin who’s been nicknamed Pinky was seen in Calcasieu Lake in Louisiana over the long weekend. It’s just the latest sighting of Pinky, who’s been seen several times by Erik Rue of the Calcasieu Charter Service. He first saw Pinky eight years ago. Albino dolphins have a pink hue, even though Pinky’s mom is gray. "I've been able to see it quite often. Just about everybody around here that fishes and spends time in the river channel sees it during the summer time," Rue said. NOAA only has records of two other such dolphins in the Gulf of Mexico, spotted in 2003 and 2004. "You can hear about a pink dolphin, but when you see it, you go, 'Wow. It is pink!' It is just beautiful," Rue said. — Read it at Newsweek
