Sarah Palin Adopts New Dog for Her Son With Down Syndrome

The former governor of Alaska is a polarizing politician, but the announcement Republican Sarah Palin made on Facebook this week is something both sides of the aisle can get behind.

Palin announced the addition of her family’s “new four-legged love” Monday. The black Labrador Retriever has been “trained to be Trig’s buddy.” Trig, who’s 6 years old, is the youngest of Palin’s five children, and has Down Syndrome.

The dog, named Jill Hadassah, was trained by the Palins’ friend Becky Beach and her Puppy Jake Foundation in Iowa, with the help of Canine Craze. The Puppy Jake Foundation trains dogs for families with special needs as well as for veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Jill Hadassah joins the Palins' three other pets, Lucy, Lola and Wilson, at their home in Alaska.
