You can now have Felix the Cat around all the time. Talking Toys announced this week the release of a new app for the iPhone — Talking Felix the Cat.

If you're too young to remember, Felix the Cat is often considered the first true animated movie star. He's a quirky, adventurous cat who starred in silent black-and-white movies. His first appearance was in a 1919 short film called Feline Follies, according to

Soon after his movie debut, he made the transition from screen to print and was syndicated in more than 250 newspapers in a multitude of languages. Felix became so popular that Charles Lindbergh chose the cat to be his lucky mascot on his historic transatlantic flight.

And now he's on your phone. Talking Toys describes the new interactive app this way: "Poke him and watch his funny reactions! You and Felix can play your favorite songs with his Rockin custom Felix the Cat electric guitar, as well as play his mini climbing game. He also dances, juggles and you can also send personalized messages to your friends."

We think the timing is interesting for the new Felix app. DreamWorks Animation recently acquired Classic Media, which owns Felix the Cat and a slew of other vintage animated stars. We can't wait to see how they will revive these great characters from the past.
