Who Had the Best Week in Hollywood? Crystal the Monkey

When TV Guide recently released its list of the top paid stars on TV, we couldn't believe one of the names on the chart: Crystal the Monkey. According to the magazine, the capuchin makes $12,000 for each episode of NBC's Animal Practice she acts in.

For comparison's sake, Crystal makes twice as much money as celebrity chef Mario Batali on his The Chew talk show. That's not bad for a primate, but she's still a long way away from catching American Idol judge Mariah Carey ($17 million per season), Two and a Half Men's Ashton Kutcher ($700,000 per episode) and late night host Jay Leno ($25 million per year).

Crystal might soon be hauling in more cash than her human costars, though. Washington Post TV critic Hank Stuever completely panned Animal Practice, calling it "Scrubs with a slight risk of rabies." Its pilot episode airs Sunday night after the closing ceremonies of the Olympics.

Stuever named Crystal (who plays a veterinary hospital mascot named Rizzo) as the show's sole saving grace. He writes: "Animal Practice is a forgettable show sloppily built from comedy cliches, but it can be fixed by firing most of the cast and rebuilding the show around the monkey."

We can't argue with that!
