Pet ownership means many different things. For some, it’s about having a loyal companion to come home to after a long, hard day.

For others, it’s about snuggles; wet, slobbery kisses; or throaty purrs.

For others still, it’s about a connection that transcends the spoken word yet somehow touches our very souls.

Whatever sharing your life with a companion animal means to you, the team at Animal Care of Oradell understands exactly where you’re coming from.

That’s because we’re more than just veterinary professionals. We’re pet parents, just like you!

In fact, it’s the bond we share with our own furry or feathered family members that makes the level of care we provide so unique.

We treat our patients with gentle compassion because we love them just as our own!

At Animal Care of Oradell, we strive to make vet visits a positive experience for everyone.

Whether it’s padded tables, warm blankets and treats for your pet, or WiFi and beverages for you and your family, we go the extra mile.

If you’re in the market for an Oradell or Paramus vet that’s different from all the rest, we invite you to give us a try.

Call or stop by today.
We can’t wait to meet you!

Animal Care of Oradell Staff Profiles

Leo (Resident Hospital Cat)

Leo is ACO's most recent furry addition. He is a 12-year-old, 17 pound orange tabby that loves to be loved. He came to us after his owner was unable to care for him after being moved to a senior living facility. Obviously, it took time for his adjustment as well as ours but as you can see he has really moved into the space. He is currently enjoying our staff apartment where he has five large windows and birch platforms overlooking Kinderkamack Road. He gets to hang with all the staff members during lunch hours and even Roxy when she comes into work. They are couch buddies!

Dr. Suzanne May

Co-owner, Veterinarian, Board Certified Internist
Dr. Suzanne May simply cannot remember a time when she didn’t want to be a veterinarian. She’s always been struck by the unconditional love that flows between a pet and their owner and strives to do everything in her power to nurture that bond.

Dr. May is a Jersey girl and grew up in neighboring Ridgewood, NJ. Her parents’ careers in scientific education inspired a love of nature and a weakness for animals early on. She attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst for her undergraduate studies, then moved to Columbus, OH to receive her veterinary degree at The Ohio State University’s School of Veterinary Medicine in 2001. After working in Michigan and New Jersey, Dr. May headed to New York City to complete an internal medicine residency at the Animal Medical Center- the large and challenging caseload there taught her more in two years than she could have learned in a lifetime elsewhere! Dr. May is a rare find in veterinary general practice being one of only 4 board certified internists practicing outside of a referral center making her a perfect choice for pet parents looking for specialty care in a more intimate setting.

Dr. May and her husband opened Animal Care of Oradell in 2013. She shares her time between Animal Care of Oradell and Animal General in Edgewater, NJ. Dr. May loves new pet appointments and having the opportunity to influence pet owners positively from the start. She also loves that every day is different, and each one offers endless opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Dr. May, her husband, and their son Shane share their lives with an amazing cast of furry characters. Roxy is a beautiful blond Border Collie mix from the tough streets of Newark who was rescued by Dr. Hurst; Smudge is their sweet old Maine Coon mix who gives the world’s best kitty kisses; tabby cat Ernie is a stubbornly affectionate foodie also saved by Dr. Hurst; and Kiki, a rescued Siamese, is the newest addition to the family and is already showing the older felines that she is more than just a pretty face.

When she has time away from her veterinary duties, Dr. May enjoys spending time in nature with her family. Hiking, kayaking, paddle-boarding, swimming, and snowboarding are just some of the activities this active family enjoys. While quiet time is tough to come by these days, Dr. May also loves yoga, meditation, and reading.
