Avery Creek Pet Hospital Staff Profiles

Sandra K.

Receptionist
Sandra is originally from Durham, NC where she first started working in a veterinary setting in high school. She has worked at several clinics since then and continues to expand her knowledge in the veterinary field. As a child she grew up riding and training horses so working with animals is a natural calling. Sandra enjoys interacting with clients and providing excellent customer service which is one reason she choose to work at ACPH, “ACPH does an exceptional job of making sure clients are well taken care and providing outstanding medical care to all of their patients.” Sandra has a particular interest in dog behavior and helping clients learn how they can more cohesively live with their canine companions. She is also a professional dog trainer and believes that a happy dog is one that can be fully incorporated into a family’s lifestyle. Sandra enjoys taking her two Border collie mixes mountain biking, hiking and anything else outdoors related.

Heather Durbin

Practice Manager
I grew up in Western New York, although NY will always be “home” to me, Asheville is where I have chosen to raise my family. We always had pets when I was growing up. I inherited my strong love for all animals from my grandparents. As a child, my grandmother would quiz me on which type of birds we spotted in the yard. When the opportunity to work in veterinary medicine presented itself to me, it seemed like the perfect fit. I started working at Avery Creek Pet Hospital in 2002 as a receptionist then in 2007, I became the Office Manager. My roll in our hospital is always changing and growing, today I am the Practice Manager. I feel very passionate about providing excellent customer service, which I feel we do a great job with here at Avery Creek Pet Hospital. I enjoy attending continuing education conferences to always learn better ways to make our clients experiences the best they can be.

My husband, Jeff and I have a beautiful daughter, Cara. We share our home with 2 cats, Chumlee and Sherman and 2 dogs, Turbo and Gus. All rescues. My family and pets are my greatest passion. I also enjoy reading, photography and being outdoors. I can’t forget, cheering on the Tarheels!

Mark Wysocki, DVM

I grew up in Dearborn, Michigan. My family had Boxers, Saint Bernards and an English Bulldog as well as a rabbit, parrot, and several parakeets. My grandfather started the first pet ambulance service in the country with the Michigan Humane Society in the 1950's, so my love of animals must be genetic. I always did well in math and science, so Veterinary medicine seemed like the perfect combination for me as a career.  I graduated from Michigan State University in 1983 and, following vet school, completed a small animal internship in Springfield, MA. I practiced on Cape Cod for ten years. That is where I met my wife, Diane. We moved to Baltimore, MD, where I practiced emergency medicine for several years.  From there, we moved to Greenville, SC, where we lived for 5 years before finally settling in Arden and starting my own practice. When not at work, I enjoy exercising at the YMCA and have recently started rowing with the Asheville Rowing Club. I have three children (Kyle and the twins, Joy and Emily) as well as three cats.
