Del Mar Pet Hospital Staff Profiles

Jeanne Koploy, DVM

Veterinarian/ Owner

Dr. Koploy fulfilled her childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian and living on a tropical island when she transferred from the graduate program at UCLA (studying Marine Phycology) to Ross University, School of Veterinary Medicine in Dominica, and later St. Kitts, in the West Indies. Her 4th clinical year was completed in Utah, which included an exotic animal rotation through the Hogle Zoo in Salt Lake City.
After receiving her DVM degree in 1986, she completed a rotating internship in small animal surgery and medicine at the Grand Avenue Pet Hospital in Santa Ana, California.  She continued there as a staff veterinarian, after completing her internship, for three more years before relocating to the Monterey Bay area.
In 1990, she joined the Santa Cruz Veterinary Hospital consortium at its satellite hospital, Del Mar Pet Hospital, working with Dr. Jay Stone.  In 2000, she was given the opportunity to purchase the practice from Drs. Jay Stone and Thomas LaHue.
Dr. Koploy loves the ability to provide ongoing quality care to patients and clients (many of whom she has known since her start there in 1990).  She enjoys a broad spectrum of general practice and has interests in surgery, internal, reproductive, and emergency medicine, and the care of those on the other end of the leash!
In her "spare time" she loves to hike, ski, swim, garden,(did I say attend cross- country dairy goat shows?) and spend time with her two-legged and four-legged family members.

Molly Tackabury, DVM

Dr. Molly Tackabury graduated from Emory University with a degree in Biology in 1999. She then completed her doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at the University of California, Davis in 2003. Growing up in Southern California, she knew she needed to stay near the ocean and moved to Santa Cruz. She has been practicing veterinary medicine for over 10 years and became part of the Del Mar Pet Hospital family in 2009.

Dr. Tackabury works exclusively with dogs and cats and has a special interest in internal medicine, geriatric and preventative medicine. She understands how animals truly become part of the family and strives to help both her furry patients and their owners. Growing up, it was clear she had a connection to animals and always seemed to be around them. She and her family share their home with a sweet pitbull mix named Bugg and two kitty siblings, Chester and Chloe.

When not at the hospital, Dr. Tackabury is spending time with her family at the beach or in the snow. Her hobbies include biking, swimming, skiing, and reading. She especially loves soaking up every minute with her sons and having an excuse to be a kid again.

Emily Talkington, DVM

Dr. Emily Talkington graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in 1997 with a degree in Biological Science.  After graduating, she joined the United States Peace Corps and volunteered as a zoonotic disease prevention educator in rural Zambia.  Her love of travel and exotic places drew her to Grenada where she attended St. George's University and earned her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 2006.  Her last year of Veterinary School was spent at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana where the icy, cold weather was an inviting change from the tropics of Grenada.  She then went on to study in a Masters Graduate Degree program in Veterinary Epidemiology at the University of London in the United Kingdom.  After working in southern Oregon as a small animal vet, she moved back to California in 2011 to be closer to home and her family.  She is very involved with endangered species conservation and rain forest protection in the global realm and has volunteered in several wild animal sanctuaries in Africa and most recently Borneo, Indonesia.  She has worked with Koko, the gorilla, which communicates using sign language, and advocates for all animals big and small.  She was awarded SGU Vet Alumni of 2012 for her global volunteerism and activism in the conservation field.  In addition to her conservation work, she truly enjoys working with small animals and their guardians, especially in the areas of internal medicine and preventive care.  She currently resides with her rescued, feisty old kitty named Aspartame and enjoys living in Capitola where she can be found stand-up paddle boarding, hiking and playing with her nephew.
