The Dog and Cat Clinic, was founded in 1940 by Dr. Robert Franks, a graduate of Texas A&M. He owned and operated the Dog & Cat Clinic until 1985 when it was purchased by the current owner/Veterinarian, Dr. Valri E. Brown, a 1982 graduate of Auburn University, Auburn Alabama. She is the daughter of Air Force parents during elementary and middle school years. Then during high school her father retired and they moved to Alabama, hence Dr. Brown attended Auburn University for her Veterinary training. Upon graduation she immediately moved to Louisiana where she did a 3 month internship for a veterinarian in Minden and then went to work for Dr. Franks. Three years later she purchased the practice!

The practice is an all small animal practice, exclusively specializing in dogs and cats and prides itself on personal, friendly service with excellent individual one-on-one care for you and your pet. The clinic's warm and inviting atmosphere will make you feel right at home. We treasure our long-term clients who founded the clinic as well as our new clients responsible for our continued growth, success and future expansion. Dr. Brown has put together a wonderful, caring, and competent staff who are genuinely concerned about the service they provide and helping your pet lead a longer, healthier, happier life.

In the future, Dr. Brown has plans for expansion and is planning to build a larger facility on the same site. She plans to add additional veterinarians and expand services even further to include Board Certified Internal Medicine specialist to better serve our patients, their families and the community. We are very excited about this and appreciate all of our wonderful clients who will make this expansion happen.

Our mission is to offer a caring and nurturing environment for our patients and their families while providing high quality medicine in a professional, compassionate and competent manner.

Veterinarian and Practice Owner

My name is Dr. Valri E. Brown and I decided to become a veterinarian when I was very young, about in the 8th grade. I loved horses, dogs, and cats and much to my mother's dislike of some of these critters, my sister and I kept finding them and sneaking them into the house (got in a lot of trouble for that one)! Anyway, time went on and I knew that being a veterinarian is what I wanted in life. I attended Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama and graduated in 1982 with my DVM degree. I moved to Louisiana for a "temporary" internship here, and then I bought a practice! I have owned THE DOG & CAT CLINIC since 1985. I have two wonderful sons, that really prefer cars, baseball, auto-mechanics, and girls (not veterinary medicine)! I am very proud of them for the young men they have become. Arabian Horses are my passion and my biggest and most enjoyable "hobby." We have a 100-acre farm on the west side of Shreveport where there are 45 beautiful mares, stallions and babies. It is the second largest Arabian farm in the state of Louisiana. I enjoy breeding and foaling and I love to spend time riding. Visitors are welcome. I also have 6 great dogs and lots of cats that like to hang out at the barns! I love my work, and especially enjoy the interaction with the clients and their animals on a daily basis. I love my staff and appreciate the service they give to our clients and me. "Behind every great veterinarian is a great staff." Show More
