Liberty Animal Hospital, PC Staff Profiles
Dr. Jason VargasDr. Jason Vargas, a son of two retired members of the Air Force, grew up in North Carolina, Great Britain, North Dakota, and finally Alabama. He carried out his undergraduate course work at Auburn University and graduated from the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in May 2012. During his time at AUCVM, he was very active in and is past president of Christian Veterinary Fellowship. After graduating, he worked at Martin Animal Hospital and Kelley Animal Hospital until November 2013, when he became a member of Liberty Animal Hospital. Dr. Vargas has great interest in all aspects of veterinary medicine but particularly enjoys ultrasonography, soft tissue surgery, and dermatology. He is a member of the Jefferson County Veterinary Medical Association and the Alabama Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Vargas and his wife, Lindsay, have two cats named Joey and Jack, and one dog named Morris. Show More

Dr. Barbara MonaghanDVM
Dr. Barbara Monaghan grew up between Biddeford, Maine and Miami Lakes, Florida.
As the daughter of thoroughbred race horse trainers, she discovered Auburn University where she attended veterinary school and graduated magna cum laude in 1991. After practicing in New Orleans, Louisiana and Opelika, Alabama, Dr. Monaghan purchased Kelley Animal Hospital in 1997 and later partnered with Drs. Martin and Williams to open Liberty Animal Hospital in 2002.
Dr. Monaghan is active in all areas of companion animal medicine including orthopedic and soft tissue surgery, internal medicine, pocket pets and she has a special interest in dentistry and oncology. She is also active in organized medicine and currently sits as the Chair of the Council of Veterinary Service for the American Veterinary Medical Association, past-President of the Alabama Veterinary Medical Association, past-President of the Jefferson County Veterinary Medical Association, and sits on the Alabama Veterinary Medical Foundation. She is a member of the Junior League of Birmingham, Junior Achievement and a past board member of Children's Aid Society. She received Auburn University's Young Achiever Award in 2001 and Alabama Veterinarian of the Year Award in 2008.
Dr. Monaghan is married with three children, two dogs, two cats and a pony. She and her husband are both pilots. She enjoys competing in marathons and triathlons and reading.

Dr. Cindy WilliamsDVM
Dr. Cindy Williams is a Georgia native, born in Newnan. She graduated from the University Of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 1996 and moved to Birmingham.
While in veterinary school, she was an active volunteer at the Greater Athens Humane Society. She received awards in recognition of her service to the Humane Society. She is a member of both the Alabama and Georgia Veterinary Medical Associations, the American Veterinary Medical Association, and the Jefferson County Veterinary Medical Association. She continues to work regularly with the local Humane Society, volunteering many hours and recently serving on the Executive Board of the Greater Birmingham Humane Society. She has special interests in ultrasonography, exotic animal medicine, natural and homeopathic medicine. She also has a continuing interest in stem cell therapy for arthritis. When not at work she can usually be found at the barn riding one of her four horses. She also has two dogs, three cats, and a bunny.
