Mitchell Village Animal Hospital Staff Profiles
Rachelle Tommasone, RVTRachelle is our licensed veterinary technician and has been with us since our opening day in the summer of 1989. Being the daughter of a US Marine, she grew up in Havelock, NC and began working as a kennel attendant for Havelock Animal Hospital at the age of 13. She continued to work with this hospital until heading off to college at NC State University in 1986. After only a year at NCSU, she realized that what she truly wanted to do was to become a veterinary technician. She then moved to Sanford, NC to attend the tech program at Central Carolina Community College and graduated with an Associate In Applied Science degree two years later. It was at this point that she moved back to the coast and began working for Mitchell Village Animal Hospital. Rachelle not only loves working as a technician, but also as a teacher and mentor to high school students or other young adults who may come into the hospital to "shadow", work as volunteers, or to perform an "externship" for a technician or assistant course they may be taking. She even spent a few years as the instructor for the veterinary assistant course at Carteret Community College.
One of Rachelle's biggest passions is animal behavior. She grew up training and showing Shetland Sheepdogs with her mom and, after graduating college, taught obedience classes in Morehead City for many years until time constraints forced her to stop. Although she no longer teaches obedience, she still enjoys helping clients deal with any behavioral issues that they may be having with their pets (dogs and cats alike).
As for Rachelle's family, she currently shares her home with two German Shorthaired Pointers, one Siberian Husky, one Walker Hound Mix, and six cats. All of her pets are rescues, and she works hard to stay connected with a good number of rescue organizations, both local and national.
