Morehead Animal Hospital provides services for cats and dogs. The practice has been at its current location since 1992, and is staffed by David R. Bird, D.V.M. and associate veterinarians Katie Willis,D.V.M. and Kathy Ferguson,D.V.M. along with two licensed veterinary technicians, and a support staff who use their extensive knowledge and skills to address client concerns and pet needs. Dr. Bird has provided veterinary care for clients and their pets at Morehead Animal Hospital for over 42 years.

Dr. David R. Bird
Dr. David R. Bird earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.) degree from the University of Georgia, College of Veterinary Medicine in 1974. He began Morehead Animal Hospital in 1975. He was a single practitioner until January 2012. Dr. Bird has a special interest in dermatology and now travels extensively lecturing as a Key opinion leader with a major pharmaceutical company. He enjoys all areas of practice but has a particular enthusiasm for diseases of the ear, dentistry, digital radiology, soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries.
He is married to Kelly, who works along side him in the practice. He is the proud father of three children and new grandfather to Cecelia Anne. His daughter Kristen is also a Dr. Bird with her PhD in Clinical Psychology. His twin sons are John, who is our practice manager at Morehead Animal Hospital and Ryan, who is General Manager at Kencraft Boats and is married to Spencer Brunson who is a Clinical Research Associate at Chiltern International.Dr. Bird enjoys fishing, hunting, cooking, taxidermy and a variety of other outdoor hobbies especially cliff diving in Hawaii.

Dr. Katie Willis
Dr. Katie H. Willis graduated from North Carolina State University in 2005 with a B.S. in Poultry Science and the University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2009. She began her career in Greenville, NC, serving as a mixed animal veterinarian for two and half years, as well as overseeing shelter veterinary programs in Pitt County.
In January of 2012, she joined Morehead Animal Hospital. Dr. Willis professional veterinary interests include canine and feline internal medicine (specifically gastrointestinal and cardiac diseases), behavior science, pain management and hospice care. With this specific interest in internal medicine, she is excited to expand patient care with ultrasound technology. Dr. Willis is USDA accredited, which entails specific training in zoonotic diseases and veterinary biosecurity measures. In addition to individual patient care, Dr. Willis also has interest in herd health medicine and has participated with veterinary-oriented mission trips with Christian Veterinary Mission. She is also involved with Marine Mammal Stranding Network in Carteret County.
When away from the hospital, Dr. Willis enjoys spending her time with her family (daughter McKenzie,son Jim and husband Nathan),relaxing at the beach, reading and traveling to her family farm. Her furry child is L.D. (Little Dog).Show More

Jill Richardson Farley
Jill is a 1979 graduate of Central Carolina Technical College in Sanford, North Carolina. She has an Applied Associates degree in Veterinary Medical Technology and has worked at Morehead Animal Hospital since 1988. In the past she has also worked at an animal shelter in Alexandria, Virginia and worked as an educational volunteer in the Craven County Humane Society. She has specialized interest in laboratory testing, animal behavior and in canine reproduction. She attends veterinary seminars for continuing education annually.
Jill and her husband Earl used to have Weimaraners. Their kennel name Celebrith (pronounced kaw-LEE-brith) has a number of field titles, obedience including Utility Dog Tracking titles and to date has produced 7 AKC champions. One of their dogs, Ch. Celebrith Grand Illusion, CD earned the title BROM (Bench Register of Merit) from the Weimaraner Club of America for the achievements of her puppies. Jill now has 2 smaller dogs; a Parson Russell Terrier Bea and Russell Terrier Sookie along with a Golden Retriever named Truvy that is competing in AKC obedience trials.
