Old Dominion Animal Hospital Staff Profiles

Dr. Charles H. Wood, Jr.

Veterinarian
Dr. Charles H. Wood, Jr. opened Old Dominion Animal Hospital Charlottesville in 1982. He graduated from The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine and was excited to return to Virginia and make his home in Charlottesville. Dr. Wood is a Past-President and current member of The Blue Ridge Mountains Rotary Club and is proud of his club's contributions to our community. At work, Dr. Wood focuses much of his effort on helping local companion animal rescue groups and animal foster organizations. He particularly enjoys veterinary surgery, and loves having the opportunity to know his pet clients and their families personally. Away from work, Dr. Wood's favorite past-time is sailing, but he also enjoys stone carving, painting, vegetable gardening, landscaping, and being a grandpa. Dr. Wood's wife is a partner at The Nook Restaurant on the Historic Downtown Mall, so they share a keen interest in food and supporting locally owned restaurants in Charlottesville. The Woods have two children, a daughter who is the practice manager at Old Dominion Animal Hospital and a son who just graduated from veterinary school at Virginia Tech and has joined the practice as a full-time veterinarian. The Wood family lives on a mountain in Nelson County with their Australian Shepherd Dog Merlin, their two cats: Guinevere and Precious; and their two horses Apache and Gypsy.
