South Davis Veterinary Center has been a part of the Davis community since February 2003, and we can't thank you enough.  We love being your vets!  We appreciate that you are educated, compassionate, and care for your pets with abundant love and concern.  We have enjoyed meeting so many of you and look forward to helping your families in the future.

Our philosophy is based upon personal attention and education.  During our 30-minute appointments we strive to give you the information you need to make the right decisions about your pet's care.  We individualize treatments, vaccination schedules, and recommended preventatives based on what you do with your pet and where you live.  We believe that this minimizes risk to your pets, while maximizing their potential for robust health and longevity.  Our goal is to keep your pet happy and healthy, comfortable and playful, so your bonds can grow and grow.

Please, explore our site.  Poke around and have fun.  Give us a call or stop by. We'd love to meet you and your canine or feline family members.

Warmest thanks, peace, and gratitude to all,
Drs. Yackey, Bradley, Collins and Staff

South Davis Veterinary Center Staff Profiles

Michael Yakcey, DVM, Owner

Dr. Mike Yackey grew up in a suburb of San Diego, CA. After graduating from UC San Diego in 1992 with degrees in Biochemistry and Psychology, he worked at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla studying neuroscience. He moved to Davis in 1994 to start veterinary school, bringing his 3 cats with him. While at UCD, he focused on small animal medicine with special interests in surgery, anesthesia, and radiology. He worked on a couple of research projects including one that sent him to Africa. He worked in Sacramento for 5 years before opening South Davis Veterinary Center with his wife, Dr. Bradley. Outside interests include surfing, snowboarding, kayaking, and backpacking- none of which he gets to do now. Dr. Yackey loves to cook and often shares his homemade artisan sourdough bread with SDVC’s staff and clients. Show More

Cara Bradley, DVM, Owner

Dr. Cara Bradley was born and raised in Los Angeles. She went to UC Berkeley for her undergraduate education in English. She started vet school at UC Davis in 1992. Her focus was on small animal medicine with special interests in internal medicine, radiology, and ultrasound. She worked for 7 years in a progressive practice in San Ramon while it grew from 4 doctors to 11. She is very excited to work at her own practice in Davis. Her hobbies include kayaking, gardening, hiking, and reading.

Mike and Cara live in downtown Davis with their dog, Noodle, and their cats, Wadude, Ginny, and Fiona. We are always happy to hear about your pet's issues- as we have likely faced similar ones at home. Jack, one our beloved kitties, used to put us such a struggle that it would take three people to restrain him in the veterinary hospital. And our dearly departed, Penelope, who was easy to work with at the hospital couldn’t be given a pill by three veterinary professionals working in tandem at home.

Dr. Cameron Collins

As of August 1st 2012 we would like to welcome our new full time doctor, Dr. Cameron Collins. A few of you may have already met him the many times he filled in while Drs Yackey, Bradley, and Grimes were out of the office. Dr Collins grew up in the Bay Area and attended UC Davis for both his undergraduate degree and his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. He graduated UCD’s School of Veterinary Medicine with honors in 2009. His focus was small animal medicine with special interests in emergency medicine, oncology, and surgery. He worked closely with Dr. Michael Kent and collaborated on cancer research projects while a student. Before joining the SDVC family he worked at a large regional specialty veterinary practice allowing him to bring a wealth of experience and skills back to Davis. In his free time Dr. Collins enjoys being outdoors- hiking, snowboarding (yes, he can land 360’s), and skiing. His four legged family includes two cool dogs, Gracie and Colby.  Show More
