Dr. Joel Beth Mitchell, DVM

Dr.Mitchell received a Bachelor of Science (Zoology) in 1988 and received her Doctorate in Veterinary medicine in 1993 both from the University of Florida. She then completed a thirteen month internship specializing in small animal medicine and surgery at the world renowned Animal Medical Center and Bobst Hospital in New York City in July 1994.

Dr. Mitchell joined the Aventura Animal Hospital in August of 1994. Her special interests include pain management, oncology, dermatology, mammalian exotics, feline and canine internal medicine and soft tissue surgery.

Dr. Mitchell enjoys traveling with her husband and daughter Pearl who was born in August of 2006. She also enjoys walking on the beach with Madison her West Highland Terrier and Winston her Jack Russell Terrier.

University of Florida

Dr. Jessica Prats, DVM


Dr. Jessica Stipcak grew up in Georgia and received her Bachelor of Science (Animal Science) in 2003 from Berry College.  She then went on to the University of Georgia to receive her veterinary degree in 2007.  She has over four years of experience in emergency medicine treating both routine and life-threatening conditions in dogs and cats.  Her primary interests are emergency medicine, soft tissue surgery, and internal medicine.

Dr. Stipcak joined Aventura Animal Hospital in July, 2013 and is excited to work with this group of general practitioners and staff.  She enjoys meeting new clients and helping to improve the overall care that our animal friends receive.

When not at work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and family, including two large dogs Luna (a chow mix) and Turk (a shepherd mix).  Both were adopted from shelters or rescue groups.  Her other interests include anything active and outdoors, especially soccer, and also travelling and experiencing different cultures.

Dr. Awilda Acaron, DVM

Dr. Acaron grew up in Puerto Rico and received her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from the University of Massachusetts- Amherst in 2007. Afterwards, she went on to Cornell University to obtain her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2011. During veterinary school, she developed a strong interest in holistic medicine; thus after graduation, decided to pursue further studies in this field. She is currently certified in veterinary acupuncture and animal chiropractic. In addition, she is trained in Chinese herbal medicine, food therapy, and Tui-na (Chinese therapeutic massage). Not only does she enjoy working with dogs and cats, but she enjoys working with exotic pets as well. In her free time she loves reading, traveling, relaxing on the beach and, spending time with her rabbit Hazi.
