Don Harris, DVM
Dr. Don J. Harris came to Florida in 1980 following his graduation from Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine. His practice became exclusively avian in 1990, and he opened Miami's first exotics-only veterinary hospital, Avian & Exotic Animal Medical Center, in 1996.
The quality of Dr. Harris' practice is reflected in his international reputation. A major factor that allows Dr. Harris's hospital to excel in exotic pet care is the extensive professional network that Dr. Harris has established with international leaders in exotic animal medicine. Avian & Exotic serves as a point of contact between the hospital's clients and the worldwide authorities on practically any situation involving exotic pets.

Cova Talavera, DVMVeterinarian
Dr. Cova Talavera was born in Madrid, Spain. The second of four sisters, she was always enthusiastic taking care of the animals that she found injured on the street. Due to her curiosity for science and knowledge of health and disease, she found her passion in veterinary medicine, which increased during her years at the University. She graduated in 1992, at Universidad Complutense of Madrid, while Dr. Talavera was already involved as a volunteer at the Veterinary Services in Madrid Zoo. Love for animals and wildlife led her to be committed as veterinarian and curator in this prestigious zoo for 15 years. She had the opportunity to travel throughout many cities of Europe and America, assisting meetings, international congresses, and visiting leading institutions. That stage of her live turned when she came to Miami in 2006. Seeking new opportunities for her family’s life, Dr. Talavera thought that her profession should be focused on another animal’s field. While studying for the American accreditation, she had the opportunity to collaborate with recognized and specialized veterinarians in Miami area. Thanks to these veterinary masters in companion animals, Dr. Talavera has become fascinated with this world. She is a fan of the small details and enjoys learning from colleagues and researchers. Her compassion for pets and close understanding of owners are two of her highlighted traits in her job. Mother of three children, she enjoys having talks with them during meals. She is delighted with Miami’s weather and landscaping. As much as she can, she walks on sunny days, practices yoga, and goes to the ocean with her friends.
