 Located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Timberlyne Animal Clinic and Legion Road Animal Clinic are committed to providing quality, friendly care to the pets of the Triangle area.

Patients of Timberlyne Animal Clinic include just about every kind of small animal and pocket pet: dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, chinchillas, hamsters, gerbils, mice and rats. Legion Road Animal Clinic is best suited for the care of your cats and dogs only. We also have a hospital specialized to treat your feline companions, Timberlyne Just for Cats. Each veterinarian and team member is deeply committed to the health and well-being of your pet. We love animals as much as you do!

Wally Diehl, DVM, Practice Owner

    Dr. Diehl is the owner of Timberlyne Animal Clinic and Legion Road Animal Clinic. Dr. Diehl has lived in the Durham-Chapel Hill area since childhood. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, in 1977 and his DVM degree from Auburn University in 1982. Dr. Diehl started Timberlyne Animal Clinic out of the Timberlyne Shopping Center in the mid-eighties, then built Timberlyne Professional Center. Just for Cats was added several years later. In 2001 Dr. Diehl demolished Legion Road Animal Clinic. In 2003 Legion Road Animal Clinic and Legion Offices were opened. Legion Road Animal Clinic offers state-of-the-art hospital and boarding facilities.

    Dr. Diehl has a special interest in general small animal surgery, orthopedic surgery, dog training and animal behavior. Dr. Diehl is a member of the American Animal Hospital Association, American Veterinary Association, and the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association. Away from the clinics, Dr. Diehl enjoys scuba diving, photography, running and fitness training.

Mette Tomkins, DVM

    Dr. Tomkins moved to the Chapel Hill area in 1983. She completed her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1989 from North Carolina State University and has practiced at Timberlyne and Legion Road Animal Clinics almost entirely since then. In 2000-2002 she took an extended leave to do a clinical trial and then left for Charlottesville, VA, to practice feline medicine exclusively before returning to the Chapel Hill area. Her primary interests are feline medicine and geriatrics. Dr. Tomkins is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the American Association of Feline Practitioners. Outside of veterinary medicine Dr. Tomkins enjoys hiking and nature, gardening and spending time with her pets.

Jason Smith, DVM

Dr Smith spent his early years in Masachussetts and New Jersey. He attended Rider University in New Jersey where he earned his undergraduate degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology in 1999. Through college and up to acceptance to veterinary school, Dr. Smith worked as a technician in several veterinary hospitals in New Jersey. In 2001, Dr. Smith and his wife relocated to the midwest where he attended the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. Upon graduation in 2005 from veterinary school, Dr. Smith and his family moved to Raleigh, NC for the nearby beaches and the mountains. Dr. Smith practiced in Raleigh for almost two years before joining the Timberlyne and Legion Road Animal Clinics.

Dr. Smith currently lives in Raleigh with his wife and two children. He has two cats, Leena and Toshi. He enjoys all aspects of feline and canine health.
