Adopt a cat ads

Our cats are so much more than just pets. They're our reading buddies, our bed-making supervisors, our refrigerator assistants and our late-night entertainment.

But there are many cats still in shelters and rescues awaiting forever homes.

Fortunately for those felines, June is Adopt-A-Shelter-Cat Month. Shelters and rescues across the country are hosting adoption events to promote their adoptable cats and kittens and match them up with the humans who will love them best.

To highlight these efforts, our pals at The Shelter Pet Project (a collaboration between The Humane Society of the United States, Maddie’s Fund and The Ad Council) have created a series of heartwarming radio, TV, out-of-home and interactive PSAs encouraging potential cat adopters to familiarize themselves with real, live shelter pets. Because, as we all know, to really understand just how special an animal is, you have to spend some time face to face and hand to paw with him.

Can't get out to your local rescue or shelter right away? At The Shelter Pet Project website, you can have an interactive online experience with cats like Arnie, Stetson, Jules or Puma. And if you need a little more help finding the right pet, remember: You can easily search Petfinder for adoptable animals near you.

To those of you who have already rescued a cat, we say job well done! And we want to know: What is he to you? A furry alarm clock? A sofa snuggler? A fluffy ninja? Please share in the comments and help us inspire others to adopt a cat of their own!
