This nutty treat was provided by Karyn Calabrese, chef and owner of Karyn’s Cooked and Karyn’s Fresh Corner Cafe in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago.

"My dog is like my child, so I insist that he eats only the highest quality organic food — and these treats are both wholesome and healthy," Calabrese says.

"The recipe is one of my favorites because the cookies can store indefinitely," she explains, "allowing you to make a bunch and save them for an anytime treat."

Doggie Nut Butter Bites

Ingredients
1 cup almond or peanut butter
1/4 cup coconut oil
1 cup oatmeal
2 cups quinoa flour (you can grind quinoa if you don’t have quinoa flour)
1/2 cup applesauce (optional)

1. Preheat the oven to 350°.

2. Put all the ingredients in a blender and mix well.

3. Roll out the mixture, put it on a tray and bake for 25 minutes.

4. Use a cookie cutter to cut out fun shapes, like a dog bone!

Note: Keep in mind that if you feed your pet anything that strays from his regular diet — especially in large quantities — it may cause gastrointestinal upset, such as vomiting and diarrhea. If your pet has a pre-existing medical condition or if he’s on a hypoallergenic diet, you should not feed him any treats or new foods until you have discussed it with your veterinarian.
