Army veteran Michael Hammons heard people in a Georgia parking lot talking about a distressed dog stuck in the backseat of a hot car Tuesday. The police had been called, but Hammons didn’t think there was time to wait. He smashed a window in the Mustang to free the dog. "I’ve got PTSD, and I’ve seen enough death and destruction," Hammons said. "I didn’t want anything else to happen if I could prevent it." But when the dog’s owner came out of the store, she was furious and called the police. She demanded Hammons be arrested. "We would not have made those charges on our own," said Oconee County Chief Deputy Lee Weems. "The deputies on scene say the owner of the dog and the car were very insistent that he be charged with criminal trespassing." The dog’s owner said she was only away from the car for five minutes but Hammons argues it was longer. The owner was cited for leaving the dog in a hot car. — Read it at People Pets
