Walrus in the City: Mitik Takes Manhattan
Published on December 08, 2013
It’s clear baby Mitik is enjoying his new digs at the Wildlife Conservation Society’s New York Aquarium.
In July, members of the Alaska SeaLife Center rescued this little chunk of walrus cuteness off the coast of Barrow. He was in shaky condition, suffering from a high white blood cell count, severe dehydration and a bladder infection. Initial prospects were not good for the whiskery pup, but some four months later, Mitik is showing great improvement.
Since his October arrival at the Wildlife Conservation Society’s New York Aquarium, Mitik is gaining as much as half a pound a day under careful supervision, and a warm bottle every four hours.
