Who Is The Pets Table?

The Pets Table was founded in 2023 by employees of the HelloFresh Group – a company widely known for its direct-to-consumer meal solutions. The founders of The Pets Table felt their pets deserved that same high-quality food that us humans enjoy. The result was healthy, minimally processed fresh and air-dried dog foods delivered directly to pet parents’ doors.

The Pets Table features an on-staff Board Certified Veterinary Nutritionist who helps to develop AAFCO-certified human-grade fresh pet food formulas that meet your pets’ nutritional needs.

The brand tailors each meal to your pet’s nutritional needs through its dog food subscription service. Upon sign-up, pet parents are encouraged to take a survey that inputs their dog’s biographical history and dietary info. Deliveries are then scheduled to your home regularly.

Overview of The Pets Table Dog Food

The Pets Table offers a variety of fresh food for dogs across multiple formats, including:

  • Fresh: An array of human-grade dog food, made fresh with no preservatives or fillers and delivered frozen. The Pets Table fresh dog food meals come in three flavors: chicken casserole with green beans, turkey casserole with broccoli, and beef stew with carrots.
  • Air-Dried: Billed as a minimally-processed and healthy alternative to kibble, these meals contain with real ingredients and no fillers. They’re air-dried at a low heat and are shelf-stable. They’re available in several flavors, including chicken & sweet potato, beef & berries, salmon & whitefish with pumpkin, and lamb & beef with brown rice. Some of these recipes, especially salmon & whitefish with pumpkin and lamb & beef with brown rice, are also allergen-friendly.
  • Mixed: A meal packaging plan that splits calories across a combination of Fresh and Air-Dried meals, providing a mix of truly fresh dog food and more shelf-stable premium food.

In addition to the above core offerings, The Pets Table also offers a smaller version of the fresh plan, called “Half of Fresh,” a variety of treats, a mixture of soft chews/supplements, and smaller portions of its air-dried foods intended as meal toppers.

Putting The Pets Table Dog Food To The Test

We enlisted our pup, Wally, to try The Pets Table Air-Dried fresh dog food for this review. We had heard about the movement toward fresh dog food and were genuinely curious about the hype. But truthfully, we didn’t know much about that world or how the products would practically work in our household.

We opted for the air-dried option as we were looking to trial a more shelf-stable option that didn’t take up room in our refrigerator and could serve as an easy entryway into the world of fresh dog food. We didn’t necessarily have a specific goal in this trial for Wally, but we did want to monitor if the switch boosted his energy or helped his gut, as he’d been prone to a higher volume of bowel movements.

Product Spotlight: Air-Dried – Chicken & Sweet Potato

The air-dried chicken & sweet potato flavor may help pets achieve gut health and bolster immunity. It features a mix of fresh ingredients, including chicken, sweet potatoes, carrots, spinach, cranberries, vitamins, minerals, select preservatives (mixed tocopherols), and more.

Our Pets Table Dog Food Trial

Our trial of The Pets Table began with taking a simple survey. The survey asked for straightforward information, including the pet’s biographical age, family members, and body type. From there, the survey personalized Wally’s daily calorie count, and we could then select our meal preferences. The Pets Table calculates the meals needed for a specific time frame based on the daily calorie count and automates recurring orders. After we placed our order, they informed us of the timetable for our first shipment.

Not long after ordering, our dog food arrived! It came in a standard delivery package – branded on the exterior, so you knew exactly what it was even without looking inside. Inside, the contents were neatly packaged in bags, making storing the product easy.

For the product we tried, the directions are straightforward, and all you have to do is serve it because it is shelf-stable. We opted to slowly ease Wally into the diet, giving him a little each day and mixing it with his kibble to ease the transition.

By the end of the first week, we had fully transitioned to The Pets Table. Wally enjoyed the flavor profile and had no issues fully changing to The Pets Table. Given the air-dried format, our feeding routine has not changed much besides the product he consumed.

While Wally enjoyed the product, noticeable changes were not immediate to his demeanor. As time passed, we noticed our yard was a little cleaner thanks to a reduced waste volume, which we thought could correlate to the product’s gut health claim. We also noticed that he seemed to have slightly boosted energy and was a bit more playful with energy by the end of the second week of use.

Things We Like:

  • Ease of use. For our family, the format of the air-dried dog food as a healthy alternative to the kibble he’d had previously made it easy to serve, administer, and store this product without much change to our current lifestyle.
  • Dog food subscription service model. While it requires some information upfront, The Pets Table takes care of the rest by calculating daily calories and how that translates into individual meals and total meal quantities delivered. It made it easier for us not to think about measuring Wally’s food frequently.
  • The convenience of delivery. The benefit of getting high-quality dog food delivered straight to your door cannot be underestimated. It made it easy for our family not to have to think about when our next trip to the store might be.

Things to Consider:

  • Flavor profiles. There are seven recipe options, so you may have to try different ones or rotate to your dog’s liking.
  • Environmental impact. While some aspects of the brand’s deliveries are recyclable, the fresh and air-dried food-specific packaging is not.
