2016: We've scoured the Web to find the best and most compelling animal
stories, videos and photos. And it's all right here.
Veterinarians have been working around the clock to save animals in southwest Australia who’ve been badly injured by the area’s bushfires — including some adorable kangaroo joeys. Little Sam, a joey who had his hands, feet and even tail bandaged, became an Internet star after the
Waroona Veterinary Clinic posted his photo on Facebook. "Some locals spent quite some time trying to catch him — he's super quick — but he was obviously hungry enough to approach them for hand feeding," said Samantha Dunne, trainee veterinary nurse at the clinic. "When they're with us, we're able to treat their wounds, keep them hydrated, comfortable and look after them as best we can with the goal to release them into the wild." After sharing photos of Sam and the two little girls pictured here, the clinic has had to ask the public to hold off on making any more donations because they feel they have enough to cover their costs at this point. — Read it at

A wayward fur seal pup was discovered in the bushes at a business park in the San Francisco Bay Area on Wednesday morning. The Hayward Police Department at first thought the person who called to report the animal was mistaken, and it was actually a possum or a
cat. But, it turned out that the caller was correct. The pup had somehow made his way out of the Pacific Ocean, across Interstate 880 and into the office park — and a tag showed that this is the second time this pup has been rescued. Pipester, who was emaciated and dehydrated, is being treated at the
Marine Mammal Center again. The center had tagged and released him after rescuing him in November. — Read it at
With the Washington, D.C., area preparing for an historic blizzard this weekend, one of its most famous residents met the white stuff for the first time. Keepers at the
National Zoo took 5-month-old panda cub Bei Bei outside into a small area Thursday morning to explore a light dusting of snow while his mom was busy eating breakfast. He wasn’t quite sure what to make of the white stuff — but he certainly was cute checking it out. — Read it from the

On the second anniversary of his beloved dog’s death, a California man is remembering her by encouraging other
dog owners to spend quality time with their pets while they have the chance. In a
post on Instagram, Chris Sontag-Ratti offered to send a tennis ball to anyone who wants one in memory of Everything, who was a
Rottweiler mix who loved to play. He’s been stunned by the response. “I am getting requests to send tennis balls all over the world,” Sontag-Ratti said. “I was planning on spending my entire paycheck this week on shipping but looks like I’ll have to use next week’s check too. I don’t mind one bit either. I would spend my last dollar if it helped keep the memory of my Everything alive.” — Read it at
