Baby Jaguar Born at Texas Zoo

Don’t get between this mom and her adorable baby!
Little Sasha was born on July 16 at the Fort Worth Zoo in Texas to Xochi. The 4-year-old has been a very protective mother, taking care of her in a private area, just like a jaguar would do in the wild.
The cub, who was nearly 14 pounds at 2 months old, can now been seen exploring her yard at the zoo. Jaguars can grow to be 6 feet long (not including the tail) and weigh between 100 and 250 pounds.
Sasha will stay with her mom until she’s about 12 to 18 months old, when she’ll be transferred to another zoo in order to promote genetic diversity within the species.
The jaguar is native to the southern United States, but the big cat has pushed further farther into Central America thanks to habitat changes.
