Elderly Woman Finds Dog in Tornado Rubble During Live TV Interview
Published on May 21, 2013
Of all the stories of hope and resilience already emerging from the rubble of the Oklahoma tornado, this is one of our favorites so far.
In an interview with CBS News, Barbara Garcia recounted her attempt to ride out the storm in her bathroom with her dog. After the floor came up from under her, she couldn't find him.
"I hollered for my little dog, and he didn't answer. He didn't come. So I know he's in here somewhere," she said, gesturing toward the pile of debris.
Then something amazing happened. Someone spotted the black Schnauzer moving beneath the rubble, and, with some help, Garcia was able to pull him from the wreckage.
"Well, I thought God just answered one prayer to let me be OK," she said, leaning over her dog. "But he answered both of them."
