Kitten Covers Aretha Franklin

The Kitten Covers Tumblr is exactly what it sounds like: popular album covers are altered, replacing the artist's face and body with tiny kittens. The blog isn't brand new, but with fresh covers added each week, it's one of our favorites.

The newest addition pays homage to R&B great Aretha Franklin's 1968 album Lady Soul. Thanks to New York-based artist Alfra Martini there are now over 100 covers from legendary albums such as Nirvana's Nevermind to Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison.

Martini told Humor in America writer David B. Olsen that the idea came to her in a vision. More particularly a vision of David Bowie as a kitten. "I don’t know how or why," said Martini. "Perhaps it’s because I’m a huge Bowie fan and have an Aladdin Sane tote bag I use and see everyday – or perhaps it was because my little calico cat was sleeping at my feet, as she usually does when I’m in bed – or maybe it was the Theraflu – but it was a very clear image and the thought made me laugh."
